The Annual Celebration of Hip Hop Theater Festival 2008

For hip hop and rap music fans, the annual celebration that takes place in Washington D.C. in July is the must be at, must see event of the summer. It is a weeklong celebration that features international, national and local hip hop artists in all artistic forms. The dates for this year's festival are July 7th through the 12th, 2008, so clear your calendar for this music and performance event.

Events are free and seating is first come, first serve and are presented in a number of locations in and around Washington, D.C. such as Woodrow Wilson Plaza, Andulo & Sesto Senso, Benning Park Recreation Center, Studio Theater and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts are just a few of the locations where you can indulge your love of hip hop and rap music.

Washington D.C. is just one of the cities that hosts the Hip Hop Theater Festival or HHTF. San Francisco, New York City and Chicago all present their own programs honoring hip hop and rap in all its forms.

The Hip Hop Theater Festival isn't just about music, it is about performances too. You can see the work of local playwrights and performers from around the globe in comedic productions, plays and dance ensembles.

Following this year's festival will be events sponsored for Brave New Voices from July 13th through July 19th, 2008 by HHTF. So if you have a two week vacation, then be sure you spend it in the nation's capitol dancing, singing and moving to the beat of hip hop at its finest.

No information as yet is available on the artists and performances for the event. If you want an update on events then check out http://www.hiphoptheaterfest.org/node/23 for the latest news regarding who will be there and where specific performances will be held.

New York City will host their own Hip Hop Theater Festival in the fall of 2008. If you check the website above, you can find out more information as it is available for this event as well.

You may see performances such as In Spite of Everything that was written by and is performed by The Suicide Kings. The play focuses on high school violence and begins a day after a shooting at a high school. It is said to be an electrifying and raw journey that mixes fact and fiction delivering a performance that is not to be missed. The play delves into the reason behind the rise in school violence and how the young can survive using art to cope.

If you are ready for all things hip hop and rap, make sure you attend one of HHTF's events around the country. Many major cities are host to Hip Hop Theater Festival on Tour and you can see a variety of performances in a myriad of ways.
