A Hip Hop Music Christmas: The 5 Top Hip Hop and Rap Albums for the Season

Hip hop and rap have taken over the music industry, infiltrating every genre including having Christmas presented in a hip hop way that once was thought to be impossible. Good tidings are brought to the fans by their favorite hip hop artists and these albums are exactly what hip hop enthusiasts are looking for to make their season bright.

Christmas Rap

Released in 1987, this hip hop Christmas treat was the product of the success of "Christmas in Hollis" by Run DMC. It is a compilation of songs that are the closest thing of a rap or hip hop album that can be found. Run DMC and "Chillin with Santa" by Derek B. and "Let the Jingle Bells Rock" by Sweet Tee will thrill and enhance the spirit of the season for every hip hop fan worldwide.

Old school hip hop is represented by Dana Dane with the album "Dana Dane is Coming to Town," Death Row Records released "Christmas on Death Row" which was trying to show that hip hop was not just gangsta rap, but a wholly different interpretation of the season of Joy.

A newer addition to hip hop contribution to the sounds of the season is "A Dipset Christmas" released in 2006 that tries to reach out to those that lived in the "hood." If you prefer your hip hop laced with a bit of Gospel then "Gift Rap" by Cross Movement is what lovers of hip hop and rap should seek out. The album is not just a holiday compilation but it is an album that can be enjoyed all year round.

Old school hip hop lovers will enjoy "Christmas Rap" released in 1987. This is considered as the best thing to a rap album for Christmas that fans can find. Songs by Run-DMC, Derek B will have hip hop fans jumping for joy during the happiest time of the year.

The year that was remembered as the year of Tupac's death sent Death Row Records to try and present something that was not considered Gangsta rap when Suge Knight presented his compilation of "Christmas on Death Row" along with Danny Boy, the Dogg Pound and Nate Dogg. It is thought from the title that it is a hardcore Gangsta hip hop compilation but it is a lovely collection of Christmas songs through the ages.

Hip hop has been viewed in a light that is not always complimentary, but if fans dig deeper, they will see that hip hop is merely an expression of what it is like growing up in the inner cities without the advantages that many people take for granted.

Hip-Hop Group After The Smoke Battle With YouTube and UMG Over Intellectual Property

A couple weeks ago hip-hop blogs began to buzz about "Far From A B****," a new track by Alabama MC Michael Wayne Atha (aka Yelawolf) featuring three rappers from his label, Slumerican. The sparse, creepy tune includes a particularly pertinent verse: Somebody had to lose/I guess that's how the game goes. The line speaks volumes to the unsettling environment of the music industry and a certain "us ...

Annoying Things About Hip-Hop: Jay-Z, Joe Budden + More

Filed under: Hip-Hop , Hip-Hop News , Exclusive Here at The BoomBox, we love us some hip-hop. We love it like Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake do. But sometimes, it drives us crazy -- cray, even.
